All the components for the chatbot we’re building today are ready, so I’ll now start assembling it by hand. First, let me introduce each component. This is a speaker, which produces sound. Next, this is a single 3.7V, 500mAh dry cell battery that powers the chatbot, making it portable. This is a digital power amplifier. Its role is to amplify the audio signal output from our main controller before sending it to the speaker. This is a microphone, which captures our voice and converts it into an electrical signal. Here we have a small LCD screen that displays simple information, such as our spoken input, the robot’s responses and feedback, as well as signal strength. This small board is our main controller, providing most of the functionality, and it will be mounted on the largest board, the baseboard. As introduced a couple of days ago, this baseboard is custom-made by us, and its purpose is simply to hold all the aforementioned components. In the next lesson, I’ll explain how to install them.
